IRS standard mileage rates
The IRS publishes the business standard mileage rate each year, and sometimes adjusts it mid-year. MileSure applies the rate in force on the day each trip happened. Source: IRS standard mileage rates.
| Period | Rate | IRS news release |
|---|---|---|
| Jan 2025 – Dec 2025 | $0.70 per mile | IR-2024-312 |
| Jan 2026 – Jun 2026 | $0.725 per mile | IR-2025-128 |
| Jul 2026 – Dec 2026 | $0.76 per mile | IR-2026-29 |
How the estimate works
- Deduction = business miles × the IRS standard mileage rate for the period.
- Only miles driven for work count. Commuting between home and your regular workplace does not.
- For delivery and rideshare drivers, miles between orders while on shift are generally business miles.
- The IRS expects a written record: date, purpose and miles for each trip. That is what the MileSure report provides.
